Get removed from the green

If playing singles you need a referee to mark the game Lisa ๐Ÿ‘

When playing bowls and a player is struggling to bowl a wood up the green what can happen to this wood that didnt make it upto the 14 mtr line under Federation rules???

Comment on Facebook

It can be removed?

Most probably John Norfolk’s so leave it and hope someone knocks it up

Is there a rule?????

Only Ian's (pop) bowls do that ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

To answer your question Melanie, yes if a wood does not reach the 14 mtr line from the centre of the mat it can be classed as dead and be removed!

View more comments

A bit of fun but something we should know! Are these allowed foot placements in bowls when casting the jack or bowling the wood?????????

Comment on Facebook

Think it depends on if your playing fed or Eba

Fed no bar number 5

Yes they are but not in ALL games, if playing under EBA YES ALL are ok, if playing in Federation only number 5 is OK the rest would be classed as a foot fault!

Another one for you, is this allowed under Federation rules?????

We didn’t know anything about this, who was it against? X

# ***Roving cot rules!
The cot & mat must be within 2 mtr's from the edge of the green, once the end is won DO NOT pick the cot up before you place the mat down and it should not be any further than 1 mtr from it, all bowls which count are no more than 2 mtr's away from the cot, min cast length is 19.2 mtr, with a max cast length of 37 mtr's, if you placed the mat down at either end on the 2 mtr line and cast the cot to the 2 mtr line the other end this distance is approx 33 mtr, so you can cast a full length, corner to corner is some 54 mtr!***

Great work Glen. But you didn't mention when you put the mat down to start a new end it has to be placed within 1m from the cot. Keep up the good work.

This popped up on my memories from 10 years ago who misses him playing

Comment on Facebook

Who is it Josh???

Yh Paul was a great player Mayb he will return

Paul clutterbuck his name is glen he's qualified for the national championships at skegness a few times when he played I started at ormesby were I played with him

Good bowler and a nice person to play with , would struggle to get into those whites now though

Nice guy for an Arsenal fan

Very good player would be good to see him playing at Caister again.

Came to Caister Bowls Club from Ormesby with his wife Michelle...both great players and club members! They stopoed playing due to family commitments...they will be back I'm sure ๐Ÿ˜‰

He popped along to the club a few weeks back and donated his club shirts back to the club. Michelle's gear too . And yes he was a very good player .

Paul, Mel & the late Dougie Richards won the County mixed triples to qualify for Skegness. I remember Dougie was overcome with emotion as he'd never won anything like that before.

# Reading the head?

Lot's of people say they can't read the head, the skip he tells you where to come right, the skip is the one in charge right, he decides which hand you play right, he's the best player in the team right?

As the going say's there is no 'I' in team!

Again as part of the bowl's England course we had a desk-top simulation for reading the head, Aaron and myself were playing and Aaron was the skip.

So you are in a game and below is your head, which way would you bring me in, you have the last bowl and need 2 to win the world final, the reds put one bowl in the ditch?

**Do not read any further and pick your direction from looking at the picture and then continue!
.**
# **.**
# **.**
# **
**

So the sort of things we need to ask before we even think about calling could be:
**What is the state of the game**, we know this we are one up, we hold and we need 2 to win!
**How do we create 2 points** from what you see?

**What can go wrong** from what you can see?

Thinking about those things above did it ever occur to you if I like my back-hand over my fore-hand, how the bowls are sitting, upright or on their side, did you ask for my input, remember this is for the world title so there is a lot of pressure on me now, the reason for this is communication between you and the skip, many times I have seen skips just telling come this or that side, sometimes the shot is given away because the cal was rushed or not thought about, how does it look from my end, how do my bowls turn????

I love my back-hand would that of changed your mind, dangers, if I come fore-hand what are they, well it's there in red that is the big danger for me, I hold the shot, my other bowl is standing on it's edge, any small contact will make that bowls roll and possible hit the jack in the direction of the red, I could play under the front blue and come onto the red, pressure shot for the world title don't forget!

Could I play my best playing hand, back-hand, come round the red and drop right onto the other red (2nd) shot to make it 2 shots to win?

We do see the game differently and may call either side, it's the thinking and the communications that could make a big difference to making that shot!

He called me on my favourite side, I bowls lovely as that side of the green has a **really good swing (Did you think about that?)** we made the shot and won!

Lovely evening for bowls...

My journey into bowls started just over 3 years ago, walking past our green whilst on a school trip as a parent helper, I thought, I wouldnโ€™t mind giving that a go, made contact and was told about the **Thursday roll-up**, so there I was like all of you have done at some point, turned up without a clue about how bowls is played, well done **Frances and Brian** for showing and allowing me the chance!

Some may not know and some may not care, but I then wanted to try and help others plus myself in playing bowls, a coaching course was presented to me as someone thought it might be something I could do, I gave it a go and not so far away I complete my stage 1, recently Bowls England used about 4 of us for an experimental online course on coaching, at first I thought what is this all about, as each lesson took place we all had input into it and was coached along the way via 3 Bowls England coaches.

So many ask **โ€œWHY AM I NOT BOWLING CORRECTLY?โ€**

Not a simple question to answer but something you should think about, so one part of the course was how to make a good delivery and what is involved in doing that, have a guess on how many stages there are for your delivery?

1, 2, 3 maybe 5 stages ???????

Remember this is what they use to make a bloody good bowler, you might not want to use it all but it could make you a better bowler?

So it all start at the........

**Pre-Delivery **

The way you are just before you enter the mat and start to bowl, do many of you have a good old chat and then someone says โ€œItโ€™s your turn?โ€ or are you involved watching and getting ready, the same routine every time in the way you pick your bowl up, the way you approach the mat, what are you thinking of, or are you still having that conversation and not concentrating at all?

**Stability**

Can you keep your balance when starting your delivery, are your feet in the correct place facing the correct way and still balance when you finish?

**Aiming Point**

Do you know where you are going to aim, or did you rush on the mat, if not bowling 1st did you watch any other bowls, trial ends will help with this info, your 1st bowls will help you decide your next bowl if going the same hand, remember each side and each way could be different??

**Pendulum Arm**

Most bowlers use this, not many use a motion from the hip forward, almost all bowlers start with bringing your arm backwards 1st, the same smooth pendulum action time after time helps deliver a smooth bowl.

**Follow Through**

Do you do it, do you bring your arm through the delivery pendulum motion or do you stop once that bowl has left your hand?

**Line Delivery**

Did you make that line when you bowled, did you hit the spot you wanted?

**Staying Down**

Some will argue this one but staying down will stop you lifting your head and in turn your body, this could result in a bouncing bowl, a wobble, missing the line?

Looking at the stages above you need to commit 100% on each bowl you make, you know when you havenโ€™t made that good bowl, but at what point did it go wrong, focusing on one step at a time you should be able to find where you are going wrong, then rectify it. The proโ€™s all have a pre-delivery, itโ€™s what makes their mindset for each bowl, a pro always have their feet in the right position to give them total balance through their bowl, you donโ€™t normally see them lose balance or even fall over once they bowl, they pick their aiming point every time, the same swing time after time bring the arm all the way through consistently makes a far better bowler, they hit their line delivery almost every time, almost ALL will stay down after the bowl has left their hand and then step up the rink.

Things to think if it doesnโ€™t seem right, shoulders should be square with your feet, if you bounce the bowl you are letting it go too late or letting it go from the hip, if you drive the bowl into the ground then you are letting the bowl go too early, if you lose balance are your feet not far enough apart (Left to right) is one foot too far in front of the other one, if you wobble the bowl you could be holding it wrong, you could also be flicking or twisting your wrist, missing the line could be just giving more attention to your aiming point, someone could have been in your way if using something at the end of rink, did you have a smooth pendulum motion or did you hit your nee, move your arm out to the side, did you lift your head in turn lift your arm and let the bowl go too late?

**After each bowl use a review process! **

**Did you commit or where you 60% focused?**

**What actually happened to the bowl you just bowled?**

**Was there any difference in what you wanted to do and what you actually did?**

**What action will be required to get you to do everything you need to do?**
